After hitting the two year mark for my business I reflected a bit back to when I first started and all the things I had yet to learn. I thought I would share some of those things with you as well as articles/links that helped me out.
First thing, you will tell yourself that its going to be a hard road and you know that BUT it is a HARD road.. Step 1: work hard, Step 2: Revisit Step 1, Step 3: Repeat Steps 1 and 2. And don't be discouraged by this, hard work makes your work all that much better in the end because you are constantly pushing toward a bigger goal, you may feel like you have lost sight of it multiple times but you will find it and get to it eventually.
Next thing, It can be scary and overwhelming at the best of times. things like applying for shows, creating stock, display, travel will become a bit much at times. Take things slow and research everything from display ideas, what shows other crafters recommend, and popular Items of the year. There is so much to look into but taking one step at a time and having others to bounce ideas off of really helps. For articles to read check out : Etsy Blogs it has inspirational stories, help with your shops, ideas and more.
Find people with similar goals to hang out with and learn from. The people around you are very important to motivating you and teaching you. Motivated people motivate you, unmotivated people will drag you down. Now this doesn't mean you need to drop people you know and find new ones but to expand your circle of friends. However, you will find the some people will drift away from you and that is unavoidable. they are either unable to adjust to your new lifestyle or are just in a different head space/place in life causing a drift to occur. Those that stay with you and are excited for you are the people you want to keep around.
Most importantly Love What You Do and Don't Give Up! you will doubt your self a lot especially if you envision success but hit some bumpy roads and don't do as well as you would of liked. You have to keep going, find friends you can talk you to help you clear your head or talk about your trouble and you will gain new perspectives and ideas! Road blocks happen, and you need to see them as challenges to overcome not dead ends. I'm really happy I have awesome friends that I can bounce ideas off of or them telling me I need to take a breather and look at things differently to find answers (P.s. ice cream at Denny's at 2am with a friend is a great idea! I highly recommend it). Don't get to mixed up in the paper work or focusing on one huge end goal, you loose sight of why you loved what you were doing. If it feels right go with it and the goal you are searching for may be right around the corner. Loving what you do keeps new ideas coming (keep a idea journal. you will forget awesome ideas if you don't...trust me...)
So to finish this off I just want to say a HUGE thank you to everyone who has supported me in this endevor! My supportive family, my sexy man, My amazing friends, and my fans! This summer will be a awesome one and I can't wait to be at the summer conventions this year!
So I am taking a break from doing my themed octopus for a bit so I don't burn myself out on them. A while back I made some wine glasses with octopuses sculpted on them and then kinda forgot about them....so to chance things up I am revisiting those fun little creatures!
I will be making sets of 2 or 4 depending on design, this WIP i challenged myself to do a octopus in a different way other so i did him peaking up through a loop in the stem of the glass.
I am happy with how this turned out, he looks pretty cute and almost in mid motion.
But I am off to bed as have been busy in my Laboratory creating Plug earrings and this guy for the Calgary Expo!
Here is a slight progression of how this creation came together from concept to finished and ready to wear. Took a total of 7 hours to complete (sculpting, chainwork, and finish)
The little guy will debut at the Calgary Expo along with The Tardis Octopet and (fingers crossed) a third Doctor Who inspired peice.
Here are the three styles we decided on. All three are $65.00
We are looking at having a few in each style with different pendants at the Calgary Expo. If there is a certain style and pendant you want to see please comment and we will try to have them at the show.
If you like the Leather work/ choker designs please check out MetlAttire's FB page (click on Green text)
this image with the water marks on it, since it is a collaboration project. If you like the leather work please check out:www.facebook.com/MeTlAttire
This is the prototype style 1 of the chockers. that Metl Attire and myself have been working
I think we will try 1 -2 more styles before we decide on a final designs.
Eventually each pendant will come in a choker style (bad ass versions/changling versions)
More styles to come! We plan to debute them at the Calgary Expo April 26 - 28th!
Here are all of the Cutie mark Images for Set 1! Set 2 has a tentative release date for mid to end of the summer.
I will be debuting them at The Pop Culture Fair (March 24th Sunday) at the Edmonton Aviation Museum. Priced at 15$ each.
Other exciting news is that I am working a collaboration project with Melt Attire to create Cutie mark chokers.
This is just a short blog update, Ill Be back with a new Creation in the making!

So after much trial and error, and many tutorials later I can finally reveal my Cutie Mark Necklaces!
I am a fan of the show "My Little Pony" and the newest version of the show is a fun watch with humorous characters and is in my mind a decent kids show that actually teaches kids lessons on how to be a good person to other people. I am trained in creating vectors but haven't had the time to really enjoy it since I work in my job i do not create vectors very often for clients. But, Being able to make my own creative versions of the the character's curie marks and create funny fan items has brought back my love of creating vectors. I do not own any thing regarding MLP this work is purely fan art jewellery.

Here is my first geek themed octopus! this is just a work in progress shot. So far so go now i have to finish small details before i can start the larger details.
Like i mentioned this is the first of my geek themed items. I plan to have more on the way from various genres. my next ones i plan to be from Dr. Horrible's sing along blog. This one i see being in a shadow box or a display box instead of just in a decorative box.
Fingers crossed the progress keeps going good!

So this is a bit of a late entry but its better later then never!
This is my latest Octopet called "Ice Queen" and it took me 6.5-7 hours to finish. There are glass beads on the chain and crystal pendants being clutched by the octopet.
This piece looks like it would be heavy but looks can be deceiving.
This one is a real stunner for me and I will admit that it is going to be hard to separate from it...
I am really looking forward to showing this at the up-coming shows this summer!
